Wooden Pilates Reformers
A wooden Pilates reformer is the classical build: a hardwood frame carrying the carriage rails, springs and rope system. Wood damps vibration better than tubular steel or aluminium, which is why studio machines have used it since Joseph Pilates built the first apparatus.
Oak or maple
Maple is the harder, denser timber. It resists dents and warping under heavy daily load, which makes it the standard choice for commercial studios running many hours a day. It also has a paler, tighter grain.
Oak is slightly softer with a more pronounced open grain and a warmer tone. It performs identically for home and light studio use, and it costs less.
